We are

This is post is a dedication to a VERY special group of persons.
A group of my friends, who have turned a random dream to a reality.
I call this group of socially conscious young people the Slumcodets!
At the beginning of this year, I gave a proposal to a small group of friends.
When I started to write the proposal and list the people I wished to present it to, I found that intimate group of friends to be a group of 20 people!
All persons I talk to regularly (ie. Every week and close to daily!! Only five of whom are in my school!) All people I count on. All independent and responsible young persons; HIGH achievers in their different fields.
People blazing a trail and projecting excellence in whatever projects they undertake.
University students and some working:
Economists,
Lawyers,
Accountants,
Medics,
Actuaries,
Engineers,
Architects,
Urban planners, all willing to come through for me, in whatever I needed.
I set a date and planned a meeting. Proposal in hand with a GREAT turn out on short notice, fifteen people. I presented my proposal.
The plan?
To launch a community service program for the year. Our approach was to be unique and it had been well thought out and detailed.
To attend to a need of young people in the slum, to provide mentors. At the time we did not have a group to go to and with all these wonderful people behind me I embarked on project "find a group".
With the help of a good friend Sarah, we found an NGO based in Huruma that we could work with. Sarah is the official ambassador for Slumcode and it was a great honour to have her recommend our group to Slumcode as well as offer the validation we required for Slumcode to trust and work with us.
The Slumcode group took us in and embraced every one of us.
We had an orientation session later in January this year where we managed to visit the centre, and understand the need. We have been able to take part in an activity every month since our inception, and our group membership although now closed continues to grow.
Slumcodets have been faithful members in attending meetings and being innovative in their approach to this mentorship endevour. We have become a tight knit group of individuals in our dedication to the Slumcode group, and we can only hope for bigger and better things in the coming months.
I am eternally grateful to this group of individuals, who I would love to name, but wanajijua! And it's their right to have their privacy maintained, but nawapenda wote!
This is a tribute to you all.
I must extend a most special thank you to Mr. Albert Nashon our facilitator at Slumcode
I salute you for all the wonderful things you do and enable us to do. We are your little army. We are the Slumcodets!
On-going projects!
Right now the Slumcode Group is working on collecting books and creating a world class library filled with books from all over the world!
The procedure is that any books you have in good working condition, you can donate.
Any books, academic and otherwise, novels and magazines can be donated.
You would be required to autograph them with your name and the country that you're from, on the front page of the book.
Generous donations are welcomed.
